bangkok postcard #1: chatuchak market

I love markets. Wherever I am, one of my favorite thing to do is check out where the locals shop.

I find inspiration in the colors and textures, the food and spices, and the differences and similarities of household goods across cultures. Full disclosure: I also like to buy stuff.

Bangkok is home to the great-grand-daddy of weekend markets: Chatuchak. It's full of locals and foreigners alike, and oh my was it an experience.

Every Saturday and Sunday, Chatuchak's vendors are happy to sell you a barely fathomable range of products, including everything from fake sneakers to live baby squirrels to aluminum woks to antiques to textiles and yarn.

I blocked out a full day for the market, and it was well worth it. The only downside was trying to get home - 1.5 hours in the back of a tuk-tuk unintentionally huffing exhaust fumes in horrid traffic in a thunderstorm.

I hope your enjoy the pictures of some of my finds!
