Singapore Postcard: Wild Pineapples

Before I knew how pineapples actually grow, I imagined that they grew on trees - like giant spiky apples dangling from the branches. 

Not so much.

The next time you handle a pineapple, have a look at the bottom - you'll find evidence of a very, very strong stem which has held the fruit aloft as it matured.
